A dream journal keeps remembered scenes and your own reflections together. You do not need long or literary entries. A few sentences, a feeling and the details you remember can be enough to begin.
Start with a short template
Use these prompts in your own words:
- Date: when am I making this entry?
- Scene: where was I, who was there and what happened?
- Detail: which object, phrase or image stayed with me?
- Feeling: what did I feel when I woke up?
- Personal note: what does this remind me of in my own life?
“I was in a crowded station and did not know which way the train was going. I felt curious and rushed” is already an entry. You do not have to fill in missing pieces. Separating remembered observations from later interpretations helps you understand what you actually recorded when you return to it.
Writing or speaking?
Writing may suit someone who wants to organise details as they go. Speaking offers another way to begin when typing a long entry is inconvenient. If your tool turns audio into text, review the result before saving: names and short phrases may be transcribed incorrectly.

Revisit entries in your own context
After collecting entries, you can return to your own recurring words, places or feelings. Keep personal associations as separate notes instead of assuming that a symbol has one universal meaning. A date and a descriptive title make an older entry easier to find.
Treat an AI interpretation as text that may prompt reflection, not as a definitive explanation of a dream, a prediction or a medical conclusion.
Decide how to handle private details
Dream entries can contain intimate information. When choosing a tool, read where entries are stored and what is sent for transcription or analysis.
